Dr. Ioana Sonea from Michigan State University visits University of Nairobi Department of Veterinary Anatomy and Physiology.  The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Faculty Exchange Program (FEP) supports Veterinary Faculty from Africa to visit Veterinary Medicine Schools in the US. Dr. Nasimolo(right on the photo) from the University of Nairobi Department of Vet. Anatomy & Physiology was among those selected in the first cohort of young faculty from Africa in 2016. During the program, the African faculty is paired with a mentor from the USA University, who works with them for a full semester in improving their teaching and research skills. Once the program ends the Visiting African faculty returns to their home institution and implement the acquired skills. A few months after the return, the Mentors from the US visit their mentees in Africa to observe their progress and also undertake collaborative activities.

Dr. Nasimolo (Centre) spent the full semester (August-December, 2016) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), Michigan State University (MSU) and worked under Dr. Ioana Sonea. Dr. Sonea is an associate professor in the Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation and coordinates the Veterinary Anatomy course. This current visit by Dr. Sonea is a culmination of the program. Dr Sonea visited the University of Nairobi from 15th-17th May, 2017. During the visit, Dr. Sonea met Prof. Kimwele CN (Chairman, Depart. of Vet. Anat & Physiology), Prof. Maingi (Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine), and Prof. Kiama SG (Principal, CAVS) and toured the teaching and research facilities in the faculty of Veterinary Medicine. She then conducted a training workshop for the technical staff in the Department of Veterinary Anatomy and Physiology, and also presented a seminar to the Faculty staff in the same department. On the final day, Dr. Sonea observed a Veterinary Anatomy lecture session and made a presentation to first year students taking Veterinary Medicine.
